Privacy Policy

Departure Board is a free app for checking live UK National Rail departure and arrival times. This policy explains what data is collected, how it is used, and what is not collected.

Server request logs

When the app fetches live train data, requests pass through our server. We log the following for each request:

These logs are used solely for security monitoring, rate limiting, and keeping the service running reliably. They are retained for up to 30 days and then deleted.

In-app analytics

Departure Board uses first-party analytics only — there are no third-party SDKs (no Firebase, Mixpanel, Amplitude, or similar). All analytics data is sent to our own server at events.breslan.co.uk.

Each device is assigned a random UUID on first launch, stored in the device Keychain. This identifier is not linked to your Apple ID, name, email, or any other personal information. It exists only to distinguish one device from another in aggregate reporting.

The following fields are sent with every event:

Events logged include: app open and background, board views, station selections, favourite toggles, filter usage, service detail views, settings opens, and paywall views. No search queries, typed content, or personal information is included in any event.

Events are batched in memory and sent every 2 minutes, when the app goes to background, or when 20 events have queued — whichever comes first. If a send fails it is discarded; we do not retry.

Location

If you grant location permission, your device's location is used on-device only — to show nearby stations and to power the Auto-Load on Launch feature. Your location is never sent to our servers.

The app requests "When in Use" location permission only. It does not request background location access.

What we do not collect

We do not sell, share, or rent any data to third parties. We do not use advertising SDKs or track you across other websites or apps.

Third-party services

Live train data is sourced from National Rail. When the app fetches a departure board or service detail, a request is made to our server which in turn queries the National Rail data feed. We do not pass any personal information to National Rail as part of these requests.

Children

Departure Board does not knowingly collect data from children under 13. The app contains no age-restricted content.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes materially, the updated version will be published here with a revised date. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
